Argan oil also referred to as “liquid gold” is known not only for its amazing medicinal, cosmetic and nutritional properties but also for oil production is a very laborious process following the traditional methods. It is extracted from the fruits of the argan tree (Argania Spinosa). Berber women collect the argan tree nuts and separate the hard-shell nut from the fruit, and then they crack the shell using a stone to collect the kernels, which have an oil content of more than 50%. The kernels are grounded by hand into a brown paste from which oil is extracted mechanically by cold and dry pressing without the use of solvents or water. It takes almost 10 hours to produce just one litre of argan oil.
